Compliance context

What EUDR requires for soya

Operators placing an in-scope soya product on the EU market, or exporting it, must trace its production locations and assess whether it is deforestation-free against the 31 December 2020 cutoff. For production plots, a point is sufficient at 4 hectares or less, while a polygon is required above 4 hectares; cattle instead requires the locations of every establishment from birth to slaughter. You submit the due diligence statement in TRACES before the relevant product is placed on the market or exported. The rules first apply on 30 December 2026 for large and medium enterprises, and on 30 June 2027 for micro and small enterprises. Read the full soya guide for commodity-specific collection and screening details.

Scope edges to watch

  • Soy-fed animals and animal products do not inherit a soya obligation.
  • Lecithin under 2923 and unlisted highly processed derivatives are outside current scope.
  • Protein isolates are outside current scope where their heading is not listed in Annex I.
