Coffee HS codes for EUDR
The HS code for coffee is 0901. It covers coffee whether or not roasted or decaffeinated, plus coffee husks, skins and substitutes containing coffee. These products are in EUDR Annex I, while instant coffee, soluble coffee, extracts and essences under HS 2101 are outside its current scope.

What EUDR requires for coffee
Operators placing an in-scope coffee product on the EU market, or exporting it, must trace its production locations and assess whether it is deforestation-free against the 31 December 2020 cutoff. For production plots, a point is sufficient at 4 hectares or less, while a polygon is required above 4 hectares; cattle instead requires the locations of every establishment from birth to slaughter. You submit the due diligence statement in TRACES before the relevant product is placed on the market or exported. The rules first apply on 30 December 2026 for large and medium enterprises, and on 30 June 2027 for micro and small enterprises. Scope edges to watch
- Instant coffee, soluble coffee, extracts and essences under 2101 are not in Annex I.
- Green, roasted, ground and decaffeinated coffee under 0901 are in scope.
- Packaging format does not change whether a 0901 coffee product is covered.
